And it does not take really deep water, our local highway department was
picking up crushed rock at quarry and there was a flooded place on the road
between pickup point and main road, trucks had been driving through this all
day water about three feet deep. One truck drove into water at a speed just
a little faster than others, the big flat front bumper threw up a wave that
went through grille and into air intake just behind grille through air
filter and was sucked into engine caused hydro-lock and bent three rods in
engine.

The cap over air intakes of some M series vehicles might avoid this, again
might not.
