As a retired owner-operator, I recall that a
truck's GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) includes the
trailer. A M35A2 pulling a M105 exceeds 14,000.
Here in NJ, we tag the big trucks for the GVW
including a loaded trailer. Usually 80,000 for
tractor-trailers. Smaller trailers are tagged
for the trailer's GVW when tagged noncommercial.
My M35A2 is tagged for private use and is tagged
a lot less than the truck's 24,000 Lb. GVW, since
I don't plan on hauling heavy loads. The M105A2
I use is tagged for 3,500 Lb. Due to not having
Historic Vehicle plates, I'm pretty sure that
I'm required to pull into weigh stations. When
I did have NJ Historic Vehicle plates, I asked a
trooper about having to pull in and he told me
that historic tagged vehicles are a pain in the
arse since we are not required to stop, but many
do.
Bruce's reference to me is in regard to my gun
collection being seized and my house searched. No
warrant or other paperwork was produced when this
act occurred. It took a year and a half and a lot
of cash to get most of my guns back. Four are
missing. One is an 1860 Colt Army six-shooter. It
was given to me by a descendant of the man that
carried it in the War of the Rebellion (CW). I have
his war records and some letters home. He's buried
across the street from one of my houses and his
house if four miles from me. NJ State Police
Internal Affairs can find no wrong doing and cannot
(read won't) account for the missing guns.
