Except for the advances in triggering the IED problem
is similar to the ones that they faced in Vietnam.
The US Army tried to pave the roads but the VC would
tunnel underneath and set the charges under the
pavement
They tried to cut the folage back to discourage
ambushes but I don't think that demolishing houses
along the route would work in Iraq
The Army would check routes daily using RoadRunners
but the ambushes and IED's would still occur.
The only way to really solve the problem is to have an
involved co-operative populace who reports the
bombmakers and the IED's when they are placed.
