Kenny,
If you go for a 3/4" air impact wrench, be sure to know
its air requirements. Besides pressure, they require lots
of air volume. A 3/8" i.d. air line will not supply
enough air to my 3/4" impact, it has to have 1/2" i.d. or
it just won't do the job on truck lug nuts. My wrench has
been around for years, so maybe modern technology has
improved so that not as much air is needed, just make
sure before you buy. I doubt that a 1/2" drive will work
on truck lug nuts, mine won't and it's high quality.
Soapy water works on beads, as does fuel oil or diesel,
but Gemplers and others offer a specialty lube. I've
been hammering truck tires apart since I was a kid. The
tool I use to break the bead is a "slapper", kind of a
long, heavy, slide hammer with a wedged blade on the end.
Prior to assembling the tire on a wheel, I spend a lot
of time cleaning the wheel and ring. Hammer tapping the
rust knocks the heavy stuff off, then wire brush and scrape.
A little tire grease (from Gemplers) on the bead aids in
seating when inflating.
