Also there is a lot of slop in the Humvee drive train normally. Make sure
you idle speed is not over 600 rpm. If it is you will get quite a thunk
when putting it in gear or changing from forward to reverse.

Sure does sound like bad u-joints. Another very common problem was the
CV-joints wearing out. Give the CV's and U-joints a good wiggle. Any
