Re: [MV] No bargains at auctions like G/L's - I don't get it...

Of course they are bidding the prices up. One would have to be a complete
idiot to think otherwise. They are criminals, just like some other
departments of our extended government. (Would you buy a used truck from the
IRS or the INS?)

What the feds ought to do is hire GL to put the stuff on Ebay, with no
reserve, and see what happens. In that way, there would be (relatively) open
disclosure of the bidding process.

As far as the recent comments about who is buying at inflated prices, etc,
the answer is: there are many people out there who still are thinking in the
"$50 Jeep" mind set. They do not have the benefit of this forum, and are
probably ignorant of the vast wealth of info in the magazines to which we
all subscribe.

A Google search for "military surplus trucks" yields 160,000 websites.
Military Vehicles Magazine is not on the first three pages of hits. Nor is
the MVPA. The GL is mentioned as the fourth hit on the first page.

It's a case of marketing, and selling to rubes, that is the reason for GL's
success.
