Hi Jeff,
Tow Bar;
Thanks for the offer of the use of your tow bar. My trucks are in Texas.
That is a bit far to let the tow bar out of your sight. I have seen some
for sale on GL, I just have not been home to arrange the shipping and
receiving. I was supposed to get to come home for 10 days leaving today.
(cancelled for another month). The plan was to move a friends truck from
near Galveston to my place in Shepherd (About 100 miles) for a tranny swap.
As for the deposit... It would be kind of hard to give up on my first born
right now. "Travis" is at Camp Anaconda, Iraq.
Or the next... My daughter "Angel" is in Baghdad.
I am in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil for now. Spent last year in Yanbu, Saudi
(lost my boss and 4 fellow workers to the muslim brotherhood). Next stop
for me is supposed to be Al Kut, Iraq starting in September. Hopefully I
will get to spend some days in Texas before then.
Paint;
I work my trucks... I do have one M-35 that is in very good condition and
may paint it, but I would not call it a restoration. For painting one
fender or bumper at a time and for rusty spots, I buy two cans of
rustoleum forest green and mix in one can of leather brown and BRUSH it
on... It makes a OD similar to the deeper green that I remember from the
USMC. Yes, it is glossy. But it looks good to me, and in this case, I am
the guy who matters. When I am dead and gone the next owner can paint pink
if he so desires. At a resale shop, I bought two five gallons green and one
brown of some commercial enamel. I am not sure what particular OD it will
be, but my crane is going to get it...
One thing that I remember is that Uncle Sam's stuff was many variations of
OD green. This was because of the Marines using a lot of hand me downs that
were in various stages of fading and from different lots and manufacturers.
Take care,
Earl
