Hi Vince ,
Lets start with the easy one ! The oil pressure , simply
drain the oil into a CLEAN container and measure as you pour it back in
allow for the filter . IF its less than the spec make up to the right amount
and NOTE the level on the dip stick and mark . You may have the wrong dip
stick ! If this is not the problem then a broken pick up pipe may be the
cause ! RUNNING THE ENGINE EVEN FOR A FEW MINUTES with little or no oil
pressure WILL WRECK IT !
The smoke is most likely unburnt fuel , the cause not so easy to pin down !
IS there a slightly sweet smell to the exhaust ? indicating anti freeze is
present ?
The list of causes for white smoke ---pure combustion -- Poor commpression
{valves, rings , head gasket or pinholed wet liners } Faulty or poorly set
injectors , Faulty
injection pump , or badly set timing .
Poor running may be caused by the above but also many other things ,
dirty filters , faulty lift pump , faulty pressure valve , blocked air
intake or air filters . Do Not Try to reset the injector pressure unless you
have the gear to do so & NEVER attempt to dismantle or alter the settings on
the injector pump ! ABSOLUTE cleanliness is vital with diesel systems ,
contaminated or dirty fuel will quickly wreck the system & WATER is your big
enemy , regular draining of filter housings with a water trap is a must . IF
working with injectors Etc be WARNED the pressures involved are in the order
of 2000 psi ! At these pressures fuel can penetrate the skin with
potentially FATAL results !
All the above is very genral but may point you in the right direction ,If
you need more help come back to me !
Good luck Noel
