This powder could be copper sulphate , indicating that the
acid has maybe crept up the wire and eaten it inside the insulation ! I
recently had this on a digger , different acid but same result , the acid
/metallic salt would pass voltage but draw power and POOF nothing ! Took
some finding !
A short circuit had caused an adjacent wire to burn out , this burnt the
insulation on another wire , burnt PVC +moisture =acid , this then destroyed
the conductor , leaving the insulation full of resistive powder !
ADD IT to your list of unlikely BUT possible causes of obscure problems !
