Our MV club has a brand new member, a U.S. Army troop about to be discharged
for injuries received in Iraq. He has come home and just purchased an
M38A1. As with many newly acquired MV's he had a few minor problems and got
them fixed ASAP and has the jeep running fine. First really nice weather
since he got it was yesterday, so he drives the jeep to our club meeting and
joins the club. This young man is very proud of his jeep, very proud. The
membership checked it out, started swapping stories and tips on keeping the
beast well cared for. A pretty good moment out there in the parking lot.
Our new member could not have been feeling any better about things!
After the meeting he takes his new wife for a ride and they wind up at a
Wal-Mart where he parks it out in the middle of the lot away from other
vehicles and they go shopping. When he returns to the jeep the entire side
of the jeep has been keyed. Not just a couple of lines, no this person took
his time and worked over the markings and the paint clear down to the metal!
I will not use words on the list that I really want to use, but I got to
tell you I can think of no life lower than the SOB that did this! There is
whale crap and then the bottom of the ocean and then down a few more yards
is where this person resides.
Why someone, and in broad daylight, would do such a thing is beyond me!
Hatred? Jealousy? Just plain mean spirited? Why? No good excuse could
possibly exist, none whatsoever. I talked with him and explained some ways
to fix the damage a little bit until he can get the money together for a new
paint job. Turns out he took out a loan to buy the jeep and does not have a
huge cash surplus.
I was so pissed when I found out I just felt like telling someone, so your
guys on the list are it. There are probably others out there among you that
have experience such a thing as well. Doesn't make it any better, but
perhaps you know first hand what this young man is now feeling. The manager
of the Wal-Mart says he will review his security tapes and contact him if
there is anything useful to be found. I do not put a lot of stock in the
outcome of that statement. Just a sad day all round.
