I have what I believe is a hydraulic lifter that occasionally
sticks in the 'compressed' position. This is evidenced by there
being sometimes a ticking sound accompanying a slightly uneven
exhaust note. I think it's an intake lifter because the note has
the tone of even exhaust, but slightly uneven power at greater
loads. In any case it's hard to detect due to the noise of the truck.
I have been keeping the oil changed, so that's not an issue.
This comes and goes, usually goes away once things are nice and
warmed up.
How do I deal with this? I am sure I do not want to take the
engine apart, and I would like to see that something worse is not
going to happen. I drive the truck every week or two.
I am hesitant to try automotive products like 'rislone' and
others, not knowing what they might do to the engine.
Any comments would be welcome.
