Hi
I've done a fair amount of research on this subject since I keep looking
for
examples of Staff car markings from WW II on ..
M38 / M38A1 Navy jeeps were both Haze Grey and Navy/Marine Green.
It depended on what group / unit the jeep was assigned to.
Ships and shore units were typical Haze Grey. Seabee, SEAL, MIUW
units ect would have been the Navy green paint ..
Major problem with most Navy vehicles is the lack of any unit or ships
markings
on the vehicle.. Most vehicles were base motor pool units that were
temporally
assigned to an in port ship or were drawn out as required by a shore
unit.
Shore patrol units were Haze Grey with Shore Patrol on the windshield
frames below the glass. Some were assigned to large ships such as a
carrier
or Anphib ships. They most of the time had the ships name / Ships number
or unit number (IE CO-VF17) on them usually on the bumpers.
Green painted vehicles were perminatly assigned to a specific unit such
as the
Seabees.. They would typically have the unit number on the bumpers and a
Seabee emblem usually on the door..Or on a Jeep on the side of the cowel
behind the slop down section of the front fender.
About your only hope would be to carefully sand / clean up the bumpers
or under the windshield glass to see if you can find any traces of any
original
markings on the vehicle.. Else just do it up with just the 94- XXXXXXX
hood
number and go from there ..
