Like many military items that were plentiful at the meets and then sort
of "dry up" as time goes by, the bumper lighting group for the CUCV and 880
family was no exception. A few years back, dealers had the complete set of
blackout LED bumper lights for the DODGE 880 family. These came as a
complete set in a small brown box and were specifically for the Dodge
family. GM did NOT make a complete set like these as they were ordered
separately. It was exciting at first to find these boxes as most CUCV's are
in need of these parts and the GM units are very hard to find NOS in the
first place only to find out they were for a crummy ole Dodge!! The
difference between the two groups were the wiring. They look the same and
have been touted either and both ways meaning if you are looking for CUCV,
that's what they are and vice versa. The Dodge that came in the box used
hapalon wire and connectors, GM did not.
The front lights that are "real" GM for the Blazer and P/U use GM
connectors with two skinny black wires. (no hapalon) They will interchange
but connectors will have to be spliced. I haven't looked to be sure but I
think that the real GM pieces have separate blinker and marker lights in the
unit. I know that the Dodge pieces use the ground in the mounting studs
(one wire) and GM might also have the ground there so the blinker can be
used and will verify this over the next few days. I have examples of both
and may take pictures of them AND see if there is a difference in the two
for size and compatibility and see if the GM had a ground in the stud
mounts. I will post the links for these pictures. I'm fairly sure the unit
itself were both the same size and mounting (GM and Dodge) but I'm not
totally sure about that either but will verify this.
Hope this helps from your technical nut!
