hi Bruce,
Nothing wrong with gas turbines but you are going to have to seriously
figure out two things. Firstly the kind of transmission you will need and
secondly what you are going to do with a whole lot of very hot exhaust
gases.
For what you are looking at it is well worth considering a set up where you
use the gas turbine to drive a generating set and then use an electric motor
(very controllable) for motive power.
