Actually, a lot of the freighters coming back from the UK were carrying Textiles and industrial goods. The largest item I can think of that was carried aboard freighters was Steam Locomotives the British continued to make. The rest of the commonwealth also supplied large amounts of material that never made it to the US, instead, it was shipped directly to our forces overseas from the more nearby factories and farms. India, Australia, New Zealand and other colonies supplied materials directly to our forces by way of depots near the theatre or in the theatre.

Many of the LSTs and freighters used in D-Day were British made. The Majority of the vessels supporting the invasion were of Commonwealth origin.

Also of note is the Merlin Engine in the P51. That wasn't a US engine, though, after a time, it was built under license. The Allison engine just didn't have the get up and go that the Merlin did.
