I don't recall any significant surface actions between US Naval units and German Naval units. Most of the Major German Navy activity (surface warfare) was over by the time we got into the fight in '42. Mostly it was the Brits hunting them down piecemeal and mopping them up. Hard decisions by the British prevented several French capital ships getting into the fight. The same thing goes for the British dealing with the Italians at Taranto and keeping the Italians bottled up in the Med.
The Bismark was been sunk by a combination of gunfire and aircraft.
Graf Spee was at the bottom of the coast of Montevideo, scuttled because she couldn't escape three Light Cruisers.
The Tirpitz was mined, torpedoed by subs and the fleet air arm then while sitting at Tromso bombed and capsized after by Lancasters.
Scharnhorst was done in by the Duke of York. The Gneisenau was chased to Brest, torpedoed, bombed, mined, torpedoed again then scuttled.
Deutschland (aka Lutzow) was torpedoed (41), torpedoed again(42), run aground, then eventually bombed again.
Admiral Scheer escaped action during the war 'til '45 when she was bombed and capsized.
The Prinz Eugen was the only major German warship afloat by the end of the war.
