For you concerned about properly grounding you radio gear, I found that the
ground strap between the floating tray and the base on the MT-1029 may have
been installed after the parts were painted.
As a result there is none or at best a poor ground connection here.
Of the two MT-1029's that I have, both were not grounded via the ground
strap.
To fix, remove the strap, clean off paint and reassemble.
