Electrical connections and compounds

Just about any parts store will have hemorrhoid creme size tube of
"Silicone Di-Electric compound". Ford started using it in the late 70's,
now they all do. It is apparently a greasy silicone compound with the
unique characteristic that a thin layer (on the contacts) aids conduction,
but in a long electrical path it acts as an insulator ( it won't short
circuit between pins) . I've never seen corrosion on the connectors either.
DO NOT let the counterman sell you the silicone heat transfer goop for under
the chips in the distributor. The di-electric will work there, but the heat
transfer stuff ain't no di-electric.

PS: don't store it in the medicine chest. I don't know what effect it would
have on itching. If you find out, let me know. I don't mind alternative
therapies....
