Sonny,
In March Jim was declared qualified. Then PART of the Executive Board
decided he was not. Jim was Chair of the Ethics Committee & was requested
to look into a complaint about an individual that WAS NOT a member for the
required 5 years prior to being elected to Director. He found that this
was a violation of our WRITTEN By-Laws.
Our Esteemed President & several others did not like that decision. They
then stated that a POLICY was in effect & Jim was not good for the MVPA.
Jim was not told why. Jim was not allowed to study, reply & appeal that
ruling that he could not run.
The Esteemed President (NOTE: I use the word Esteemed - as a replacement
for the real word - ARROGANT) used his Appointed members of the so called
Nomination Committee & kept Jim Gilmore's name off the ballot. Jim was
not allowed to run 2 Elections ago & when he did get to run, HE RECEIVED THE
HIGHEST COUNT OF VOTES EVER. JIM WAS A GREAT DIRECTOR.
If the President can appoint NON-ELECTED members to the Nominating
Committee, of course they will vote the way the President wants.
Especially due to the fact that 2 are paid as Editors of our Supply Line &
Army Motors. If they vote against the President, they just might find out
that they also "ARE NOT GOOD FOR THE MVPA"
BY-LAWS are voted by the membership for the MVPA to use as GOSPEL. Writing
a Policy should never overrule the written By-Laws. That is wrong &
Illegal. It is a way to continue to control the organization & control
illegally is never good for an organization.
Election of: Sven Johnson, Greg Wolanin, Al Nicholson & Jim Diaz, will
not change anything overnight. It might take 2 Elections to get enough new
Directors to get the required changes to continued ILLEGAL operation. Each
new Director will bring new ideas to the Executive Board.
The most important thing that MUST be changed is the Nomination Committee
make-up. That Committee Must only be used to verify that each person that
requests to run for office, has the Required Qualifications. At that point
EVERY NAME MUST BE ON THE BALLOT. The ARROGANCE that has been shown this
year has to be tempered with operation under Robert's Rules & they must
follow our WRITTEN By-Laws.
Several comments were made that this is an "OLD CAR CLUB". That might have
been a fact years ago. In Truth, this is more of a "Military Vehicles
Collectors Club". As such changes are overdue.
The MVPA has a very substantial amount of monies in the bank. Yet every
time anything is done, the funds sit there & members are charged excessive
rates for things. An Example is the planned Membership Book listing
Members names & Vehicles.
Candidates were refused a membership list. WHY ??? I believe because
the Esteemed President thinks he might lose control.
I was privileged to receive a call from Lee Holland. All he did was tell
me the same story that was already known. I wonder how much money was
spent calling all over the country. Whatever the amount, it could have
been saved.
As I said Sonny, Unless you know another candidate, VOTE FOR SVEN
JOHNSON, GREG WOLANIN, AL NICHOLSON & JIM DIAZ.
They are on the ballot & are superbly qualified & quite articulate.
Did I answer your question ??? If not, e-mail me off list & I can
put you in contact with Sven Johnson. He spoke at our MTA Meeting this
month.
