Just picked up 'Da Queen' at the dealership. Paid $145.90 for the
'estimate'. Except they didn't have one when I asked for it. Had to ask the
Service Mangler how they arrived at the estimate if they didn't look up part
numbers or book times? Blank stare followed by 'Give me a minute'....
So, he comes back and says the figures are rough amounts but it shakes
out to be $75/hr labor. OK, I said, but how do we get to $2100?
Well, he says:
Rear Brake Lines $80 parts, 6 hours labor ~ $450=$530
Exhaust, both sides, manifold back $800.00 parts, 3 hrs labor~
$225=$1025
Parking Brake Cables $80 parts, 2.5 hrs labor~$190= $270
Which comes to $1825, which is a bit shy of the $2100 but he said the
rest would be clips, fittings and shop supplies. Oh yeah, and the $145.90 to
figure out what was wrong with everything.($35 to look at the rusty exhaust
system and tell me it was toast....They charged me 30 minutes labor to tell
me something I figured out by kneeling on the ground and looking up under
the truck.)
So, once I get back from Gilbert, I'll crawl under 'Da Queen' and start
ripping crap out....Happy, happy, joy, joy.....
