OK...I have a cckw that I want to make a little more "road-worthy".
It has the original 6 volt system, but I have alot of trouble getting the
charging system to work.
AFter having sat for several weeks at a time, when I start it up the Amp
meter doesnt want to work, so I go out and spray the generator brushes or
tap the side of the generator body until
the system starts working. But even then, it seems that I have to get the
truck idling very fast in order to get the meter to show any charge. Even
after that, sometimes when I am driving and the ammeter shows charging for
10-15 minutes, when I stop the truck and shortly thereafter try to start it
again, the motor doesnt want to turn over good as if the battery is about
worn down.
Should I simply rebuild my generator or spend that money doing some other
upgrade that, long term, will be more reliable.
