I just added some more pictures that I took after cleaning out most of
the rats' nest from the truck.
There are some pictures of the transmission and transfer case with the
transmission hump and seats removed, so anybody who's curious about Gama
Goat innards might find the pictures interesting even if they're not
interested in acquiring the truck. The Gama Goat's engine and driveline
are mounted backwards compared to most vehicles, i.e. the engine is in
the rear, the transmission is in the middle, and the transfer case is in
front. The shift lever is mounted on top of the transfer case, with a
pair of shafts leading back to the transmission.
Note the short segment of clear tubing which is spliced into an oil line
on the side of the transfer case near the top: that makes it easy to
check that the transfer case's oil pump is properly primed. The pump can
lose its prime and cause the upper bearings to become oil-starved.
Without the clear tubing, it's necessary to crack open an oil line to
see if anything comes out.
That alternator close-up shows my home-made lower alternator bracket,
which is made from bolted-together chunks of steel.
