Hey DJ, received your message about 14 times.
---------- Original Message ----------------------------------
I cannot answer your 4L80E question, but I believe that it hooks
up to driveshafts (2WD) the same as a 4L60E. Does the 4L80E have a
removeable tail housing? If it does, then the 4WD version hooks up
to a transfer case the same as a 4L60E.
I do know that you can convert a 4L60E from 2WD to 4WD because
I've personally done one. I took a 2WD Corvette 4L60E and
converted it to Jeep YJ Atlas II transfer case. You only have to
swap one part. The output shaft. The 2WD output shaft is much
longer than the 4WD output shaft. In order to swap the shaft, you
have to completely gut the transmission. This is a good time to
install a heavy duty towing kit in the tranny. You can do a lot
with an auto transmission to make it last twice as long as stock.
It will shift harder, but the benefits outweigh the ride quality.
I have a few hundred jpeg photos showing what I did from start to
finish. If you want a CD with the photos, e-mail me. No cost
except the postage.
Warning! Completely overhauling an auto transmission is not
recommended for the timid mechanic who only owns a socket set.
Nobody was more surprised than me when the transmission worked.
Eighteen months later, it still does.
I guess with an e-mail address of "gpw1942" you probably have a
complete machine shop.
I do blather on,
