Hardtop Question

Greetings to All !!!
I'm reassembling my M35 hardtop to prep for paint. The top was
separated from the bottom years ago when it was sand blasted.
Question... what material should I put in between the bottom and the
top when assembling ??? (rubber roofing, caulking, etc.) ???
