In NJ air brakes once demanded a CDL ,NOT so anymore , all the small
delivery trucks and business's that use smaller trucks with air brakes, lobbied
together and got it to just weight, because there 6 to 8 dollar an hour drivers
demanded them to higher real drivers and when that much money hit the fan the
business;s simply got together and won one this time, in NJ you do NOT need a
CDL for air brakes alone, and you can register your truck under the weight
even if the vehicle can carry more, just do not get caught over you will be
hung for sure. I have checked this out over the phone with the D.O.T. a couple
of years ago when i heard of the change.Randy
