These are my humble opinions and not based of any facts, statutes, laws or
issues and somewhere I've still got the posts. As a regular LEO and an MV owner,
here's how I approach the whole deal. Since there is so much to digest and
each state can make it more stringent, I do the KISS principle. I follow the
laws, try not to draw attention to myself and try not to be too ignorant. One
thing I always keep at the tip of my tongue is the fact that I'm not in
commerce. I've asked my CMV co-workers about this issue and their biggest concern
is wether or not someone is in commerce. If you're in doubt as to wether or
not you need a CDL, you should probably get one. Now here's the $1,000,000.00
question, how many folks here have actually been stopped in their MV and why?
I drive my deuces everywhere and have had them in no less than 10 states.
I've traveled pay roads, interstates and local roads in literally dozens of
cities. Lots of this with another deuce either on the towbar or piggyback
device and even with a carseat and a 3 yr old onboard. I've never been stopped,
ever! Am I the only one? I just can't imagine too many of us get stopped
unless we're drawing attention to ourselves. i don't have any armament on my
trucks but if I did have something on a ring, I would certainly remove it for
highway travel unless I was doing something like the East Coast Convoy and
then it would be covered. That just makes good sense in my opinion to keep from
drawing attenion to myself. Look, there are plenty folks in CMVs and the
like to draw the attention of the CMV Officers.
