While it's too late for Alex, the best way for a teenaged newbie to break
the ice is to announce the facts that he is those things in the first
message. That puts the old farts on notice to behave themselves.
Most of the members of this forum are reasonable guys, who would go out of
their way to help anyone, on or off the forum.
SHOUTING is something that bothers us, however. probably as a result of all
the Nigerians and their scams. Most teenagers, being alot more computer
savvy than us old guys, would know that. Maybe this particular teenager is
that rare kid, whom we all would love to have as a son, who spends his time
doing something useful with tools and grease, instead of being immersed in
the 'puter all day.

Subject: [MV] Taps for caps
| Well, I must say that my faith in this list has been
| restored(all nos parts). I have been lurking on this
| list for more than ten years. I have frequently been
| exasperated when the list flys off tangent for days at
| a time on some weird political, personal or grammatical
| diatribe, I have always felt it best to just let it
| ride out and so this will be the last you hear from me
| on the subject. Alex does appreciate the input and
| will try to avoid offending any ones sense of email
| etiquette in the future. He is a good resilient and
| self reliant kid. I just felt I needed to remind some
| on the list that new members of the hobby, especially
| young ones, are vital to its survival and we should
| encourage them whenever possible, after all this is
| NOT boot camp, we should consider ourselves mentors
| not DI's to new members of all ages . Our response to
| a newbie may make a life long supporter of the hobby
| or convert another voter into someone who thinks we
| need to further restrict private ownership of MV's
|
| Tony AKA Alex's dad.
