la France oublie! Encore!

ah TJ
but perhaps you will also remember how just a few
years ago, French poltiticians forgot the
international and historic significance of the area to
the west of Paris.. and how they wanted to pave over
the sites of some of the most famous WWI battlefields
to make way for a new airport to serve Paris..

and IF i remember correctly it was economic factors
that put the project to rest and not really the
massive condemnation from other countries.

Nige remember this? please refresh our memeories and
provide some more details of another example of that
"French Charm"...

BTW- for our american friends, during D-Day +50,
several Canadian vets who had booked hotel rooms long
in advance of this historic occassion were
unceremoniously told just a couple weeks before their
flight, that their rooms were being taken over by
"officials" who wanted to attend. These men who had
sacrificied so much to save this "Foreign" country
(which could not save itself) were clearly told they
were SOL! "Please accept our apoliogies but you see
our hands are tied..zees politicians are obviously so
much more important than you...now please go away and
bother us no further.."
A huge outccry resulted, which involved some elbowing
by the Cdn government (only after they themselves had
been pushed by the public!) to get the French to back
down and give the veterans back they pre-booked rooms!
sheesh, and that's why I don't buy French wine..

cheers
Monty
