Hi Stu
Remember the impedance or resistance of the 2 lights has to be approx
the same if you want them both to light when in series. The bed light
is much more powerful that a small pilot lamp. As a result the
resistance while under load will be much lower for the bed lamp. It
will not even produce light while the pilot lamp will be very bright
with the same current going through your series circuit. You need to
either make the 2 lamps exactly the same and use the series arrangement
or use 24 volt lamps in parallel for your circuit which is far more
advisable.
