Toll-free numbers are virtual numbers. They are assigned to a customer, and
the incoming calls are re-directed (similar to Call Forwarding) to a fixed
land line.

When you try to do a search for a toll-free number, you will generally hit a
dead end, unless the toll-free number has been published in a website. In
that case, search engines will probably have a hit. Toll-free numbers that
are not generally published, for instance like the one you encountered, will
probably never show up in a search engine.

There are many ways to do some detective work, however, to find the info you
seek. You can ask him to fax something back to you. The incoming call info
(caller ID, *69, etc) will not show the toll-free number, but will show the
land line that it is associated with, unless it is intentionally blocked.
The fax document itself will generally have a header that spells out the
sender's company name and number, if the fax machine was programmed to do
so.

You can do old-fashioned legwork, and call every copy shop and just ask.
Often, an official-sounding person, with an official-sounding title and
stated mission, will scare employees into divulging info that the business
would normally not divulge.

What is 800 N. Michigan Ave? I am not familiar with that address. Is it a
mall, or an individual store? Perhaps someone (a telephone technician or a
friend of a telephone technician) reading this list, or just some
enterprising would-be detective can make a visit to some of the copy stores
and do some creative investigating. If I were a bit closer, I'd be happy to
do it.

| Interesting - I did several reverse phone number lookups on various
| telephone search websites - all came up no number found; if this is a
| real phone number, it is unlisted. Very unlikely that a copy shop would
| have an unlisted number. Chop shop maybe, copy shop unlikely, unless
| they only deal with a very select and limited clientle!
