Yes......they are only here for the show though. They came over for it
last year also. You didn't know that 'Jim', James Baxter is still the
honourable el presidente' of IMPS ? A good man is our Jim, his last
posting before Australia was Holland, but he usualy managed to make it
to our major shows and important committee meetings.
There are a number of people from around the world (especialy the US),
who keep military vehicles here in the UK, and come over for major
events. My friends Stan And Jill Smith from Dairy Flats, New Zealand
keep a Dodge and a BSA M20 here, they have been over for the 1984, 1989
and 1994 Normandy commemorations as well as many other special events.
My wife and I met and made friends with a number of Australian
collectors back at the 40th Anniversary of Normandy in 1984 viz...James
Swan with a Humber Light Recon Armoured car......Bevan and his pal with
the immaculate McArthur car (I think it was a PLymouth), etc etc
On the 1989 Normandy commemoration tour there was a very large
contingent of Americans, many looking to buy vehicles. I reluctantly
sold some of my own restorations from my collection....a White M3
Armoured Car, a White M3 Halftrack and a Daimler Dingo Armoured car to
Ken Lowry in California....and a T16 Bren Carrier, a GMC 6x6 and a
recovery trailer to Alan Cors in Washington. Both of whom I have since
visited.
