The MT-1029/VRC was used for the RT-246/VRC or RT-524/VRC radios, both of
which I would call Vietnam-era radios more often seen in an M151 than an
M38A1.
If I were you, I would be on the lookout for an Mounting MT-299/GR, a
Receiver-Transmitter RT-66/GRC (or -67 or -68 depending on frequency range:
infantry, artillery, and air used different frequencies), a Power Supply
PP-112/GR, a (corner) Bracket Assy., Mast Base; Mast Bracket MP-50; Mast Base
AB-15GR and Mast Sections MS-116, -117, and -118, and all the little pieces
such as speaker, microphone, cables, etc. The Mount would go on the left rear
wheel well.
This would put a "classic" complete Radio Set AN/VRC-8, -9, or -10 in an M38
or M38A1. Other radio sets and configurations were used; my personal
experience with an M38 radio jeep is that the smaller and lighter the radio
set is, the better you'll like it.
