I think there has always been a problem with the theft of MV in Europe
and else were. When I was stationed in Germany from 70-72, we had
someone try and steal an M151A2 by cutting the lock on the gate blocking
the railroad tracks and driving the jeep down the tracks. Who ever it was
made it about 1/4 mile before they got it stuck in a track switch for a
siding. We also had a guard tower installed in the motor pool that we
about 35ft high, nice view. They still tried. One time they got in and took
parts off of the Commander's jeep. The GI's on duty that night received
an article 15.
