I'm in the process of starting up a database of engine numbers with casting
and assembly dates, transmission assembly codes and axle assembly
dates for MBs. We should compare notes. I would be interested in how
you are storing your data. I assume the records you searched are
Austrailian military records? I have made numerous trips to the National
Archives looking the the Quartermaster records finding US MB records
and I haven't found anything.

There was a Canadian contract for slat grilles in the 118XXX to 121XXX
range. I'm in the process of restoring a low windshield slat grille
(103411) and I am frustrated that I can't find my registration number.
So I started a database of known slat grilles to see if I can find any
pattern in the data. When I sorted the data, a similar pattern to what
you described emerged with a bunch of Canadian slat grilles. A friend
of mine recently confirmed this when someone sent him a photocopy
of the cover of Canadian MB parts book.

> If your engine was original it should be in the range of MB 1328xx up to
> MB 13305x. It may be MB 133046 ?!
I would be interested in hearing how you arrived at these numbers.
> PS: You may have seen other mail come thru concerning slat grill units.

How are you determining that the grilles were attached at the factory and
not an arsenal rebuild? Are these dated photos?
