Just to let you know that FMKB will be starting a new tradition on 8th
May. This will be Skive Rally. It will be much, much bigger than Grindsted
Rally, and be the second "first" for FMKB, in that it will be the first
ever open rally for veteran military vehicles on a Danish Army base...!Each
time the North Jutland Artillery Regiment holds an open day, there are
8-9000 visitors on a single day! Last year, Colonel Dalsgaard, base
commander, asked me why I was the only veteran vehicle at the show. I
told him that they had forgotten to invite FMKB to take part, and that I
was only there in my capacity as a National Guard officer. He imediately
invited me to start something in 1997, and I have now received an official
invitation to do so, as well as being informed that FMKB can have as much
space as we need, and that the base will assist us in every way possible.
Having talked to many of the people on the base regularly these last six
years, since I moved here to Skive, I know that many of the personnel are
really looking forward to having us, and having a look at our vehicles.
At the moment, a small group of American vehicles from Hamburg, and a
group of Russian vehicles (among others the trench digger on a T55 chassis
that was shown in the Convoy Jutland 95 article in Army Motors) will also
be there - and demonstrate driving/digging characteristics. Vendors will be
allowed to sell militaria (a few conditions will be involved on where and
how stalls may be placed etc..) and overnight camping inside the perimeter
will be possible. There will be a military police guard on the vehicles
while the participants are "On the Town" with FMKB guides.
FMKB's membership in the Skive area are hoping to make this an event
everyone involved will remember as something worth revisiting in 1998. We
really believe that this event should not be missed by anybody who can get
there....!!
Participants and vendors are invited to contact me for further details
and registration (FMKB Identity Cards will be issued free of charge to
anyone coming from abroad - and will be required for access of vehicles
through the perimeter).
