A few weeks ago I was asking for info on a Roe truck that I'm
buying. It is mostly complete except for the starter and the instrument
cluster. The deal includes the truck and what is left of a second one
which is everything from the back of the cab forward and the gears and
axles out of the rear ends. I'm getting the whole deal for $400. I've
found what the price of a rebuilt starter in MV magazine is, but what I
wondering is does anyone have an idea what an instrument cluster should
run. I found one in a local wrecking yard and I would like to get an idea
what it should be worth. The yard didn't give me a price yet. I'm betting
they don't have a clue what it is worth. The man who started the yard died
a few years ago which left his kids running it. His son took all the
running gear out of the Reo they had and cut the frame up. All that is
left is the cab, hood, and fenders. It is also the only thing military
that they have. Its been setting out in the weather for several years so
hard telling if any of the gauges would even work. But both of my cabs
have had the cluster pulled out and the wires cut just back of the gauges
where they come together. If nothing else it could help in rewiring until
I can afford new gauges and speedometer but need the mounting plate at
least to get started.
As a side note I was sanding the paint off the righthand door of my
42 Carryall and found POLICE painted in white under about ten coats of
paint. In all the other coats there was no sign of writing, about 6 layers
of military colors before the civilian layers. The rest of the Carryall
has all been sanded off earlier with an air sander so I'll never know what
was in other areas. Also the paint had pealed off in many areas down to
metal. In places it had about a 1/16th inch of paint caked on over the
years. The door is the last piece to be painted.
Thanks for the help.
