Ladies & Gents,

According to my MB parts & maint books the Battery Support Assy(BSA)
was:
A-1138 for the first 20,600 trucks
A-5181 after the first 20,600 trucks

The photo I have from these manuals shows a two piece BSA effective
April 1942, with no changes as of May 1942. [Although my tray has been
rebuilt with a flat top tray it still has the original supports of the 2
piece BSA underneath.]

The same photo appears in a Ford June 43 manual, a two piece BSA.

By April 44 you see the one piece unit in the 1803B manual.

HOWEVER, take a real close look at the photos and note other
differences. Were they too busy to change the photos?

All of my early manuals show Willys Chassis'. The later manuals show
Fords. Have a look at yours and note the differences.

(1) The 2 piece BSA Early Willys, rather than the Ford one piece
(2) The rear cross member at the rear shock point. Rather than none in
the Ford.
(3) The tubular front cross member. Not the Ford square channel.
(4) The round central MG support plate not the square Ford MG plate.

After playing with some figures I guess-timate that GPW 6500 was a
changeover point for the VEP Fords. Any ideas folks? So GPW 6629 is
possible.

Regards,

John
