One really quick way to see if it has a MB running chassis and running
gear is to look for the steering bellcrank. The MB/mounted the
bellcrank on the axle, the CJ series mounted it on the frame. If you
have an honest "WWII" jeep you can find this telltale sign very
quickly. Also look at the rear shock mounts. If an MB/GPW they will
mount such that they protrude into the rear floor. That is why MB/GPWs
have what are called "doghouses" in the rear floor. They provide
clearance for the rear shocks and mounts.
