For all of those people out there that run into this problem of seal wear on
pinions, companion flanges, and shafts, there is a solution without
replacing. If you haven't heard of Thermal Spray don't be surprized. It
will wear better than the original base material and a wide variety of
coatings can be applied. This is an accepted method of repair and has a
great degree of integrity. As an example, over 1000 pieces of a jet aircraft
engine are repaired or manufactured with a thermal sprayed coating. The
military thing is a sideline for me. My day job is working for Stellite
Coatings. We manufacture the delivery systems and the powdered metal alloys
used in industry. I personally own the equipment to do these repairs and can
help anyone who has this problem occur. Cost is variable but normally less
than 50% of the new part. I'm not soliciting work here! I'm only offering a
solution to commonly found problems. There are themal spray shops all over
the country that can also perform the repair. Let me know where you are
located and I can probably reccommend a shop. John
