M100 Trailer Markings

Recently I asked for help on the paint color and markings for an M100
trailer. I learned that the M100 trailers were painted "24087 olive drab
semi-gloss, same as M38/M38A1 Jeeps that were the prime movers" and that the
trailers had stars and serial numbers.

I am not sure what color the stars and serial numbers should be painted.

On the location of the stars, I have been told that there were 6 inch stars
on each end panel in the center, and on each side behind the fender. However
there are also reports of pictures of marked M100 trailers with the stars in
front of the fenders, not behind. Which is right? To further complicate the
issue, apparently some have the larger 15 inch stars on them.

I purchased "U.S. Military Vehicle Markings WW2" AR 850-5(BC-164) from the
MVPA. It shows a 10" diameter star centered on the front and back end panel
and a 10" diameter star in front of the wheels on both sides of the trailer.
However, since the M100 trailer wasn't made until about 1950, I suspect that
this manual is specifically for the MBT trailer, not the M100 and therefore
may not be correct. I have recently ordered "U.S. Military Vehicle Markings
1950-1960s" (BC-165) from the MVPA. Hopefully this will shed some light on
the issue.

I have no idea where the serial numbers would have been painted or what color
they would have been.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
