[MV] Mule Throttle Cable Info

If there are any Mule people out there, I have a question concerning the
throttle cable. Several original vehicles, all A5's, have a solid wire
which goes through a plastic sleeve as it goes over the engine. The cable
that was on my A5 (unusable) and the new one I bought are both stranded type
cables. Which is/was correct? If one uses the solid wire what is the
proper way to connect it in to the quick connect fitting in the front? Or
if one uses the stranded cable, does it still go through a plastic sleeve at
the engine. Manuals are of little use in this area. TIA.
