Thanks to all who responded to my postings.
As a note of explanation, the Pigs will be used for tactical rescue, as
opposed to medical or heavy rescue. In Southern California we have had
several officers shot, mainly on domestic disturbance calls. The last two
nearby bled to death before anyone could get an armored vehicle (peacekeeper)
to them with medical aid (2 1/2 hrs). One of our officers was pinned down
under heavy fire for 4 hrs, and had to wait for darkness to crawl out. This
led to a 24 hr stand-off, in which about 12,000 rounds were expended on both
sides. More recently was the North Hollywood bank robbery in which heavily
armed robbers with body armor shot up a nieghborhood.

Humber Pigs, until recently were readily available and reasonably priced, in
the US. Some local police agencies took advantage of this so that incidents
as above could be quickly and effectively handled. Another advantage was that
this left police situations in local civilian police control, and not turned
over to the feds because they had the armor.
It seems now that an American, out to make a fast buck, has gone to England
and purchased the entire Pig inventory (8) from Budge and poss other dealers.
He is trying to sell them to local US police agencies for $30,000-$40,000US
each. There is no way that he will get this price. In the meantime officers
will be deprived of this reasonably priced protection. This buyer also has no
prior knowledge of British MV's. He has done some dangerous and destructive
things to the veh's due to his ignorance, and I also find this distasteful. I
am afraid that this may reflect badly on MV collectors in general, who as a
whole are not greedy and more than ready to help others. Hopefully I can help
to fill the gap by finding other dealers of AFV's.
