I have dried up almost all the leaks on my '43 GPW during a recent
engine, transmission, transfer rebuild. The continuing leak however is
where the mainshaft of the transfer extends out the rear of the transfer
case and is held in place by bolt and plate arrangement. There are no
provisions for a seal of any sort. As a result, it seeps gear oil when
driven. I have considered cleaning very well and covering the entire
shaft end and retainer with silicone to see if that will stop the
problem. Anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this problem or am I
being too optimistic thinking I can stop all the leaks in one of these
old jeeps?
Thanks,
