Military Vehicles, April 1997,: [MV] winch shear pin
[MV] winch shear pin

Hello
A couple of years ago someone gave me parts of a Braden winch (I
think). That owner had evidentally replaced the shear pin with something
harder. Then at some time they were stuck bad enough that when under load
the driven gear off the worm gear seperated
at the key way and now has a gap of about 3/4 inch. It streched it far
enough that now it won't come through the cover plate. When I priced a new
gear a couple of years ago the price was close to that of another winch
$400, when considering that parts of the winch are missing it wasn't worth
fixing. This wasn't through a surplus dealer so I'm going to check again.
But while I'm at it what's the best way to cut a chunk of brass about 2
inches wide and an inch thick? In a hole where you can't get at it.
Thanks for the help.
