I need some help. I am in the process of redoing the rear axle of my M38A1.
I easially pulled the rear brake drum off the shaft but when trying to take
the shaft out so that I can replace the bearings I began to run into a
problem. The shaft does not want to come out. The ordnance manual says that
once you remove the bearing shims and retainer to pull the shaft out. Mine
wont budge. The manual did not say anything about the shaft being locked in
any way in the differential so I am assuming that there are no devices
locking the shaft in at that end. Most likely just stuck after 40 someodd
years.
Does anyone have any advice on how to get the shaft out so that I can put in
new bearings?
Many thanks for taking the time to read this message.
