Hello
I have been working on my 1952 M35 with gas engine. while trying
to get the breaks working I found the wheel bearings had come loose on one
rear wheel. When I took it apart I found just under the axle end what was
left of possibily a seal, a rubberized ring about a 1/4 inch thick with
metal pieces toward the center (there wasn't much left of the inner metel
part) that fit into the housing. Than the usual lock nut, shot lock ring
(not usual), and the inside nut. Between the inside nut and the outer
bearing is a flat ring with a tab that fits into the groove. What I need
to know is, Is there supposed a seal other than the flat one (metal ring)
that seals the axel to the housing. I took a lock ring from an extra front
end that I have and there was nothing like the rubberized ring that I found
in the back.
The rear end is a Timken top mounted drive axel.
Thanks for the help.
