[MV] Roll Call

Has anyone ever attempted any kind of roll call or registry to get an
estimate of how many WWII MB GPW type jeeps are surviving worldwide? A
daunting task I realize but it would be interesting to know. Problem one:
with the condition that some of these vehicles are in when found can they
really be called a jeep anymore?
If you have three jeeps that you plan to turn into one really nice jeep
later, then how many jeeps do you have? One or three?
I'm sure we have all seen various published lists of MB GPW serial #s and
DsOD but how many of those jeeps still survive?
My own very cursory and unscientific roll call suggests that there may be as
few as 5,000 real WWII jeeps left worldwide in any condition that could be
called a jeep.
I welcome any comments and/or evidence to support or refute my assumption.
