Hi All

Well, this is the end of what turned out to be a fantastic Skive Rally
1997 - the first of presumably a great many. Despite the fact that the
weather took a turn for the worse and decided to try and wash us out
Thursday afternoon, we had over 6000 visitors. There were guns, and
tanks, and helicopters, Artillery, APC's, a parachuting team (which had
to give up because of the weather), the fire-brigade, police dogs, the
Army National Guard (which I and Betty Boop were part of), and of
course our veteran military vehicles!
Weather aside, we could not have had better conditions for the rally.
The North Jutland Artillery Regiment provided us with more than adequate
garage facilities from Wednesday evening through to today. They provided
us with housing, canteen facilities, and a free lunch on the day of the
show. Thursday evening a few of us got together and went down to a pub
run by a mate of mine from Glasgow. We had a whale of a time. The last
out of town member of the rally, Arve from Møringens Forsvars Union in
Norway, just left half an hour ago. I don't think he had quite come to
himself yet, because he forgot a frozen salami on my kitchen table.
Well, I'll have to take it up there when the dust settles!
I'll be sending the regiment a thank you note later today. This sets
the standard for all future rallies at Skive - which I expect to become
the Danish equivalent of Battle Day at Bovington - on a much smaller
scale of course. Certainly, I expect it will be the biggest arrangement
of its kind here in Denmark for years to come!
How many veteran military vehicles were we? Ten. Not many eh? Well,
last year and the year before that, there was only Betty Boop and me,
so a ten fold increase was good to see. The colonel came by and told
me he was happy with the way things had turned out. I guess that means
he'll be pleased to have us back next year. He had asked me to point out
that the selling of parts and other bits and pieces would not be
allowed, neither would the wearing of uniforms. I was pleased to see
that everyone behaved themselves well, and there were no negative
incidents at all.
So I guess everyone can put Skive 1998 on the timetable for next year
too. I'll certainly be advertising it again after New Year.

Regards
