I need to replace the windshield glass on my 42 Ford GPW.
What type of padding is recommended? On one side it was a rubber padding,
and on the other side it was tar (or bitumen) impregnated tape (fabric
tape). Which one is original? I also noticed that on the side with the
rubber padding there were far more rust under the glass than on the other
side.

There was a posting earlier about something written on the windshield. The
writing was Sekurit Belgium. The poster wondered what that was. I think
Sekurit is a glass manufacturer in Belgium. Sekurit is written on the glass
on several new european cars.
