[MV] M-37 interest

I have an '53 M-37 and bought it for a 4x4 to use in the woods and
mountains around my place here in western WA. A guy earlyier posted
that he would break axles left and right. Are they built cheaply by the
government back in those days? What are the standard axles in them?
Front and rear and did they ever come origional with a "Locker" of any
sort? I want to play with it hard, but I dont want to ruin a nice
piece of machinery if it actually wasnt made for that type of abuse in
the first place!!
